Justices of the Peace
9 May 2024
Mr ALISTER HENSKENS (Wahroonga) (16:29): Justices of the peace [JPs] serve our State by voluntarily providing the community with essential services. They can witness a person making a statutory declaration or affidavit and certify copies of original documents. I had the pleasure of meeting Dr Peter Harnwell and Mr Peter Kirkwood, from my electorate of Wahroonga, in Parliament House to celebrate their 50 years of service as justices of the peace. Both of those men have been great servants of the public in many different ways throughout their lives. Sadly, the number of JPs is slowly deteriorating, yet the need for their services is ever increasing. Being a JP is a fantastic way to give back to the community, and our community relies heavily on the services they provide. I encourage those in my electorate to volunteer their time and consider becoming JPs. I extend my deepest gratitude to Dr Peter Harnwell and Mr Peter Kirkwood for serving as JPs for over 50 years. I thank all JPs, in Wahroonga and across the State, for selflessly providing that crucial service to our communities.
