Hornsby RSL Sub‑Branch Remembrance Day

Alister Henskens paying his respects at the Cenotaph in Hornsby

Mr ALISTER HENSKENS (Wahroonga) (18:59): Last week, I attended the Hornsby RSL Sub‑Branch Remembrance Day ceremony, where we reflected on the lives lost during the First World War and in all the wars since. It was 106 years ago when the guns of the Western Front fell silent after more than four years of war that took a horrendous toll. It was a war that took the life of my great uncle and Anzac, Cedric Morrison, and permanent disabled his brother, Jim. Remembrance Day is an opportunity for the community to gather together and reflect on the horrors of war, on the many lives lost and on the sacrifices made by so many so that we can enjoy the freedoms and opportunities that our great country provides. It is a difficult day for a lot of people who feel grief and loss for those who made the ultimate sacrifice in war. I thank the soldiers and their families for protecting our country. I thank Brigadier Neil Turner and the Hornsby RSL Sub-Branch for always hosting a respectful ceremony. Lest we forget.
