Tribute to Cate Newman

Red heart with a yellow background

Mr ALISTER HENSKENS (Wahroonga) (17:53): I was deeply saddened to hear of the sudden passing of Cate Newman, the president of Hills District Netball Association. I had the pleasure of meeting Cate only a couple of weeks ago at the Hills district netball grand final. During my conversation with her, it was clear to me that she had a real, genuine passion for netball and for sharing that passion with others. She dedicated much of her time to Hills District Netball Association and held a number of important roles there over almost a decade. She was a part of the umpires committee, and she acted as the office administrator and treasurer before becoming the president. Cate was also an administrator for Netball Australia and worked closely with Netball NSW. Cate was a dedicated coach too, having coached her own daughter Dom's team and witnessed their recent grand final win, which was a moment of great pride. Cate has been described as being incredibly passionate about netball—a passion that was infectious. I send my deepest condolences to Cate's family and friends and the entire Hills District Netball Association, who I know will miss her terribly.
