Slashing the Kids Voucher Programs

In a blow to children, families, local sports clubs, scouting groups and arts organisations, NSW Labor have broken their election promise to rollover and continue the Active Kids, First Lap, and Creative Kids Programs established by the NSW Liberals.

Alister Henskens SC, Member for Wahroonga, has condemned this decision.

“Nothing develops children, builds resilience and promotes healthy habits like learning to swim, playing community sport or engaging in music and artistic endeavours,” Mr Henskens said.

“Cutting funding for the healthy development of our kids should be the last resort of the NSW Labor Government not the first.”

The NSW Liberals continued Active Kids, Creative Kids and First Lap vouchers for every family in NSW from 2018 until the March 2023 election. Those were harder times for Government than now, enduring through a global pandemic, record drought, record bushfires and record floods.

“The Labor decision to end these vouchers for almost all NSW families shows that Labor doesn’t care enough about our kids or how hard families are financially struggling,” Mr Henskens said.

“Labor misled the people of NSW before the March election in order to win government.

“Labor misled the community about Active Kids continuing, they misled it about power prices going down and they misled it about a privatisation of Sydney Water that was never going to happen.

“Labor can’t manage money, so they will always come after yours.”
